Great book!

This book is full of incredible information about attracting the type of customers you want for your business. I was a bit skeptical at first because I have been taught for years that in order to grow your business you have to sell, sell, sell, and you have to compete with everybody else, and use all kinds of in-your-face tactics that I never really enjoyed, but this book works. Within 1 week after reading this book I signed up 2 new perfect clients - the kind of clients I had been wanting but never getting. I would highly recommend that you put any skepticism aside and read this book.

This book will teach you step by step how to apply the law of attraction in business with no fluff. It's how-to info mixed with real case studies.

About the Author
Thelma Harms is Director of Curriculum Development, FPG Child Development Institute, Research Professor, UNC-CH School of Education. Dr. Harms is recognized internationally for her work on creating high quality early childhood environments and assessing educational settings. For 15 years she served as Head Teacher at the Harold E. Jones Child Study Center, UC Berkeley. She has developed a variety of curriculum materials and staff training resources. Much of her recent training and consultation has focused on the use of the scales in technical assistance, and on helping government agencies to develop accountable systems for recognizing and rewarding high quality programs. Debby Cryer, Scientist, FPG Child Development Institute, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Cryer has taught in and directed a variety of early childhood programs. She has written about early childhood program quality for more than 20 years. She is the lead author of the Active Learning Series curriculum books and has extensive experience assessing early childhood programs in varied settings. She is currently studying the effects of continuity of caregiver on children's development, and directs various projects that provide guidance in assessing and improving child care quality. Richard M. Clifford, Senior Scientist, FPG Child Development Institute, Research Associate Professor, UNC-CH School of Education. Dr. Clifford has written and consulted extensively on child and family policy issues with special emphasis on the role of government in the provision of early childhood services. In addition, he has done research on early learning environments and their impact on young children. He currently is co-director of both the National Center for Early Development and Learning and the National Prekindergarden Center. Dr. Clifford is a past president of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Informative, but not intended as a quick referrence.

This book apparently was designed for experts to use to evaluate preschoolers' classroom. The rating scale not well-designed, as novice teachers would have to flip pages and double-check everything before being able to take advantage of the rating system. Each category was merely listed in the system, which forces us to turn the pages back to the category's chapter instead of focusing on the process invovled with evaluating one's classroom.

About the Author
A consulting engineer residing in Montgomery, texas, Heinz. P. Bloch has held machinery-oriented staff and line positions with Exxon affiliates in the United States, Italy, Spain, England, The Netherlands, and Japan. His career spanned several decades prior to his 1986 retirement as Exxon Chemical's regional machinery specialist for the USA. Since his retirement from Exxon, he has been in demand throughout the world as a consultant and trainer in the areas of failure avoidance, root cause failure identification, and reliability improvement. Mr. Bloch is the author/co-author of thirteen books and over 200 other publications on subjects related to machinery reliability and failure avoidance. He is the Reliability and Equipment Editor of Hydrocarbon Processing magazine and has served as chair of the annual conference program for Hydrocarbon Processing's Process Plant Reliability Conference for a number of years.

Good Book

This book is an excellent reference for process engineers. It is full of basic information about various pieces of rotating equipment, as well as various other machines used in the process industries. The book is full of practical knowledge that is not drowned by theory.

objective game annotation from topalov, everything else is biased

publishing a book to claim that kramnik was cheating (without solid evidence) is an unethical thing to do. topalov's team should have had the courage to accept defeat even though topalov played better chess than kramnik in this match but he blundered in critical moments. the quality of the games is above average and there are many exciting positions throughout the games. topalov's annotating is excellent; describing how he felt in various moments and revealing secrets of his preparation strategies. his analysis of the games are simple yet creative, but above all they were objective. however, the feeling of bitterness of topalov's team is sensed throughout the whole book which isn't pleasant at all for the reader. UPDATE: I recently changed the rating from 2 stars to 3 stars because I read the book again and the game annotations by Topalov proved to be a delight even when reading the second time. Still, the rest of the book (written by Ginchev) wasn't pleasant at all.

Very Interesting and Worthwhile

This is the story of the 2006 WCC match from the (unsuccessful) challenger's point of view. Topalov annotates each game played brilliantly - and yes, subjectively - but that is what makes this so good.

The narrative about the entire match puts everything into perspective. And again, it is from the challenger's point of view. The discussion about the defaulted fifth game is an eye-opener. My guess is that most people, after reading Topalov and Danailov's version, will have their doubts.

Still and all, quite a good book. Not quite Tal-Botvinnik 1960 by Tal, but still worthwhile.

This is a unique book about the "Unified" World Chess Championship in 2006 between Kramnik and Topalov.

First, it is one of those rare World Chess Championship books which is annotated by one of the contestants (Topalov) itself. This was last done by Kasparov 20 years ago. But unlike Kasparov who spent sometimes 20 pages on deeply analysing all possible variations of just one single game, Topalovs analysis is different, very much like Mikhail Tals' in his famous book on the 1960 Chess Championship against Botvinnik. Like Tal, Topalov doesn't give really a whole lot of variations but instead simply explains why he made this or that move, why he chose an opening line, which plan he followed, what he was thinking during the game and where his opponent (Kramnik) surprised him or not. This gives the reader the feel of sitting at the chess-board right beside Topalov. You really don't have to be a chess-grandmaster to be able to read this book. Players of all strenghts can follow and enjoy the annotations. The match itself proved to be exciting till the end. The championship had to be decided - for the first time ever - in a tie-break.

And there is something else that makes the book unique and it has nothing to do with the chessgames itself.
The match produced quite a big "scandal" outside the chessboard. Both players could claim to be Chess Champion at the time of the match, so tensions were understandably high, as one player would loose his title.
Topalovs Team - obviously unnerved by an unexpected 2-point lead by the opponent Kramnik after the first two games! - came up with cheating accusations against Kramnik and produced a scandal reminiscent of the famous chess matches Fischer-Spassky 1972 or Karpov-Korchnoi 1978. (The original title of the bulgarian edition of this book is "The Toilet War".)
This story outside the chessboard is not told by Topalov himself but by his co-author Ginchev, who was a member of the Topalov Team on-site in Elista.
Although Ginchev fails miserably in convincing the reader about the "facts" he and his Topalov team is providing - I personally sympathize with Kramniks' cause after reading the book - the whole story is a highly enjoyable read and a rare insiders' view of events.

Already a modern classic IMO.
Better get yourself a copy before the book gets out of print. These kind of chess championship books rarely see a second edition. (The book by Tal on the 1960 match for example was out of print for 16 years; and Kasparovs books on the 1985/86 matches are ......still out of print.)

Robert A. Divine is George W. Littlefield Professor Emeritus in American History at the University of Texas at Austin.

T. H. Breen is the William Smith Mason Professor of American History at Northwestern University and the author of several works of history, including The Marketplace of Revolution.

R. Hal Williams is professor of history at Southern Methodist University and author or coauthor of four books, including Years of Decision: American Politics in the 1890s and America: Past and Present, now entering its eighth edition.

Ariela J. Gross is John B. and Alice R. Sharp Professor of Law and History, University of Southern California.

H. W. Brands is a distinguished professor of history and holder of the Melbern G. Glassock Chair at Texas A&M University. His books include the Pulitzer Prize finalist "The First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin", "The Age of Gold", and "TR", a biography of Theodore Roosevelt. He lives in Austin, Texas.
