Full of Wrath

By far the best book in the series so far. It started out very slow, especially after the surprising ending in Wasserman's 3rd book in the series, Pride. Of course it was not slow for long with ongoing scenes building up to a very surprising ending. The book deals with more issues than the other three. I love the realationship status between everyone. Kaia and her bizzare realationships with Powell and Reed. Harper, Beth, and Adams, weird connections. And Miranda and her on-going crush on Kane. In this book Harper is very much alone after Adam and beth found out what happened. With her only friends being Kane and Kaia. Kaia deals with her realationships with Reed the scruffball and Powell the French teacher. Miranda and Beth team up for this book to get their wrath out on (mainly) Harper and the rest of the gang who screwed them over.There is also a weird and unexpecting realationship betwen Kane and one of the girls(Very Surprising!)! Adam is just laying around after realizing his life has amounted to nothing but being alone.
I love how Wasserman keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, turning page after page to see what will happen next. Normally it is very hard to read about seven main characters and keep everybody straight, but Wasserman does a great job (again!) with connecting everyone and keeping everyone unique!
I love this book and I encourage everyone to buy this book and the rest of the series. These are some of my favorite books!
With such a twist at the end I cannot wait for the rest of the series!

I love these books. I can't believe there aren't more reviews for them. They are definite guilty pleasures, and I wasn't expecting to like them this much. They're miles ahead of Gossip Girl or any of those types of books, in terms of writing and character development. Also, each book is as good, if not better, than the last. I'm not saying they're great lit or anything, but they are very entertaining. And I really enjoy the relationships between the characters. After the ending of Wrath (not what I was expecting at all), I'm pretty much dying for the next installment.

Great Book With A Surprising Ending

I just finished reading the fourth book in the Seven Deadly Sins Series " Wrath" and I just loved it, it keeps you guessing and I really loved the potential of Reed/Kaia and what happens to Kaia and Mr.Powell too, the evil jerk that he is. Someone dies but we won't find out till the next book. I still can't stand Beth and Miranda the most useless characters in the series. Still love Harper and Kaia and KAne and Reed.

OUTSTANDING

Despite the exotic and interesting topic, this is not an obviously exciting read. Powlison is not a particularly sharp or polished writer. Basically humorless, sometimes ponderous, nevertheless this is a truly exceptional book. Powlison (Ivy League Ph.D., ex-missionary, full-time counsellor) has thought deeply about his subject and he makes an unanswerable case. His critique is compassionate, balanced, and generous. Honestly, this is the most important book I have read all year.

a much-needed balanced discourse on spiritual warfare

One who sincerely desires to know how to approach the evidence of demonic activity in the world, need not have to attend every spiritual warfare conference and strategy session available. In the context of God's Word, the author takes the reader through the questions and issues that can cause the Christian to often throw his hands in the air. The author's genuine look at Satan's strategy leaves the reader with hope in how we can stand in Christ. While it's not a biased polemic defense and is not exhaustive in its coverage, it does speak of dramatic events occuring around the world in light of truth. The book shows God's powerful and loving perspective when it comes to standing against all the enemy's attacks.

Powlison gives a very strong argument for why modern "demon-deliverance" ministries miss the mark. If you are involved in such ministry, you need to read this book - it will at the very least challenge some of your beliefs and practices (it did for me).

The novel's narrator, Stevens, is a perfect English butler who tries to give his narrow existence form and meaning through the self-effacing, almost mystical practice of his profession. A true tour de force

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro. Highly recommended.
It's difficult to believe how much Kazuo Ishiguro packed into this short (by today's standards), highly praised novel -- a lifetime of work and relationships, the realization of inescapable regret, and the hope it is not too late to join the rest of humanity.
Stevens is a butler for an English house that is no longer great, nor is it owned by the family for which it is named. His postwar employer is, instead, an American named Farraday; as a stranger will point out to him later, "An American? Well, they're the only ones can afford it now." Farraday "affords" Darlington Hall by shutting much of the house down and using a reduced staff, which Stevens can understand, as the staff that would be available would not be up to his own high standards. When he receives a sad, lonely letter from Darlington's former housekeeper, Miss Kenton (now Mrs. Benn), and later is told by Farraday that he can borrow his employer's car for a vacation on the road, he weighs the opportunity and decides to take it for "professional reasons" -- to see if he can lure back the highly qualified Miss Kenton to her former position. During the brief journey, he spends much of his time contemplating what "dignity" in his profession means -- and whether he lived up to it. After a plethora of recollections about the late Lord Darlington during the prewar years and after his meeting with Miss Kenton, Stevens comes to two great understandings: he did not serve a great man as he thought he had, and, in doing so, he had missed a chance for love and fulfillment. His devotion to Lord Darlington has betrayed him, personally and professionally. "I can't even say I made my own mistakes," he laments. "Really -- one has to say -- what dignity is there in that?"
This revelation does not come quickly or easily to either Stevens or the reader. Each anecdote that Stevens recalls to illustrate a point he wishes to make to himself -- the definition of dignity, how he upheld dignity by serving his employer while his own father lay dying -- subtly reveals how much he has shut himself down emotionally in order to serve. With each story, it becomes clearer that Lord Darlingon is an easily manipulated man, out of his league in world politics but insistent on playing the role of peacemaker -- even when it is no longer appropriate or wise. When his friendship with a woman leads him to firing two Jewish maids, it foreshadows his attempts to influence the British government into appeasing Hitler and the Nazis at any cost. He goes so far as to say that the U.K. should perhaps follow Germany's lead. "Germany and Italy have set their houses in order by acting . . . See what strong leadership can do if it's allowed to act. None of this universal suffrage nonsense." Stevens unwittingly proves Lord Darlington's point for him -- he trusts Lord Darlington's judgment as blindly as any German trusted Hitler's, believing that "people like him" are too ignorant to make the decisions that must be made and following the great man contentedly -- and thus making a bad decision.
When it comes to Miss Kenton, here too his perception is kept in check by his need for professionalism and dignity. His repeated emphasis on their "professional" relationship and his desire to reconnect with her as a "professional" only highlight the extent to which he will go to suppress his real feelings -- and the very real possibilities that existed.
In life and love, Stevens realises he has been avoiding both. In the end, however, there is hope. After sending Miss Kenton home, back to her husband, Stevens turns to "bantering"; that is, engaging with people without resorting to pre-programmed professional phrases --in short, truly interacting with his fellow humans. "After all, when one thinks about it, it is not such a foolish thing to indulge in -- particularly if it is the case that in bantering lies the key to human warmth." Indeed it does.
One doesn't have to be a butler in service to others to use the remains of his or her own day to look back and appraise where one went wrong and where there is still room for hope. This is an incredible journey toward understanding, written in a concise, spare manner that fits perfectly with the character of Stevens. Few writers have the gift of saying so much in so little space. More should learn it.

First Ishiguro - not disappointed at all

Was my first Ishiguro - and I must say I was impressed. At first, I thought it was another slow paced smoke monster story (not really a monster, a secret) but as the story progressed, I was hooked. Impressive writing, and beautiful dissection of the central character's psyche.

About the Author
This is Russell McGuire's second book. "The Desert Stones" stands alone as a poem of deep introspection and experimentation. While McGuire has worked for more than a quarter century on behalf of the copyright interests of America's songwriters and publishers, he has never stopped writing. He resides in Maryland with his wife of 37 years, Bethzaida Cordero McGuire. Their three daughters, Melody, Josephine and Kimberly are grown.

Buy This Book. It's Enthralling.

This poem inspired me to pursue poetry. When I first came across this poem many years ago I was a new poet and in an identity struggle. Since 10 years old and through my 20s I had read ferociously philosophy, psychology and theology in order to find meaning in my existence. The foundation of all I believed of how the world worked however was cracked by one encounter that made me realize perhaps the world was not something you could piece together through various theories and I no longer knew exactly where I fit and what I believed. Spending so much time reading Freud, other psychologists, and so much of the philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, existentialists, Kierkegaard, CS Lewis, Martin Buber- though it had all enriched my life, it had all come to a tragic end in terms of experience. After all it was just mortal men's thoughts, that often coincided with their own experience and then projected onto the world. I was tired now of looking for answers in books. I thought I would never in fact read again, until the day I discovered poetry- short discourses of thoughts that could often be read in less than a minute, but sometimes took awhile to unpack. It was a new way to convey and create meaning- through words, their sound and creativity, not just their definition and logical connections. The world of poetry exploded for me and I would spend days reading ordinary people's poems. I was so enthralled by how people communicated their experiences that I commented practically on every poem I came across on www.allpoetry.com. I didn't care if it was a sophisticated sonnet or a poem filled with unintentional spelling errors- both were brilliant- both were people attempting to send out a message - to say something that came from the center of their own passion, perception experience and understanding of life. I realized that we are ALL without exception poets, just like we are all without exception theologians (which would be another review). Poetry is everyone's lifeblood. If people can not hear you or can not acknowledge you in the logical world, they can in the poetry world-someone will get every word you are saying and will be able to relate to it. Others will take your words and give them new meaning based in their own experiences. But as a poet you will have been the catalyst to give the reader the means to verbalize what was lying silently within them. That is what Desert Stones did for me.

When I first discovered poetry, I first discovered this poem. I was very intimidated by it. To me it was a poem way beyond my ability to craft or understand yet I went back to it time and time again. It enthralled me, it drew me in because it gave me words for the collapse of my own inner world and the struggle of meaning in the outer events of my life. It gave me the words to express the world of darkness that is so shrouded in light that many people just will not admit to it. Today, this darkness can not be denied. This poem exposes that darkness. And yet it doesn't leave us without hope. There are archetypes we can cling to. We need to know about the darkness because it can choke us. It can disguise itself as light, when it's roots are darkness. The shadows and the fear we experience in those moments of anxiety are real. But once we expose the roots if darkness as ignorance, we are free from it. It's around us, we may even be forced to live in it, but it can not hurt us, because the root of us is light and true light dispels darkness of its power. We can walk through it without being afraid. We look back through our journey of darkness, we can walk through or desert moments and realize just how parched and thirsty we were. We are left with our own experience. We are left with the divine.
Both of these elements pour themselves out in poetry. Every philosopher, theologian, psychologist, man, woman and child is a poet. Poetry makes sense of life, it makes sense of me. You may never understand this poem- this allusiveness of its meaning is fully intentional by its author, but you will find profound poetry in reading this. Let your own experience be seen through it, and let the poetry speak to you. It will, and you will come away with a richer experience and understanding of yourself and the world around you as well as an inspiration for poetry. If you are looking for hope, you will find that which you can cling to. You will be able to distinguish the darkness from the light, the fleeting from the eternal. There IS danger as the book so poignantly warns but there is wisdom, strength and hope. I do not think the author will mind if I reveal the outline of the book. It will show you the exciting highs and lows of journey that awaits you. It's like listening to a concerto- it will captivate you if you can hear and visualize it's music and story. And don't be afraid to take it a part and just see each sentence as poetry and how each was created- that is how you will grow as a poet.

Another wonderful edition of Russel McGuire's poetry. Worth reading over and over.

Mr. McGuire's poems are easy to read in silence yet sound good when read aloud. The Desert Stones is no exception.

I like the arrangements on paper (or Kindle). They are interesting to see and challenge the brain. This makes them worthy of repeated views and invite the reader to reinterpret.

I have this in paper and it is a lovely read.

Like "Nebulae Cocktails", I had a problem viewing the layout on my Kindle at first. A recent update to the Kindle.app has fixed the problem and it now reads as the author intended, much to the benefit of the reader. This is good as my wife has absconded with my print copy and I may not get it back.

Like Mr. McGuire's other works, this is a part of my permanent library. I shal enjoy reading these again. Well done!

This is my all time favorite Dr. Seuss book. When I was a child I had the cassette tape and the narrator read the book faster and faster and faster. I spent hours listening and reading along. I am now a grandmother and wanted my granddaughter to have the book and audio. I was excited to find that David Hyde Pierce was narrating the book as I always liked him as the character Niles on Frasier. The cd is great as it has the option of playing a bell when it is time to turn the page, or he will just read the book straight through. He does not however; read the book fast at all. That was a little dissappointing, but overall I love the book and the cd and so does my graddaughter. The first day she got it we read it seven times.Fox in Socks Book & CD (Dr. Seuss: Beginner Books)

Based on popular courses taught by the two authors, Fundamentals of Heterocyclic Chem-istry enables students to master the basics of heterocyclic chemistry and synthesis. The text features detailed examples throughout and a clear, straightforward approach, making it easy to grasp a vast, complex field. Moreover, with its emphasis on the biological uses of heterocyclic compounds, the text enables students to learn a variety of practical applications in natural products and pharmaceutical research.

Following an introduction to basic nomenclature, Fundamentals of Heterocyclic Chemistry explores the importance of heterocycles in nature and in synthetic pharmaceuticals. Next, synthetic methods are introduced with detailed descriptions of specific reactions used to construct heterocycles. The authors have provided a brief review of each reaction presented.

The text moves on to explore special properties of various aromatic heterocyclic systems. Next, the authors explain the synthesis of some important families of heterocycles, using plenty of examples for illustration, mostly from the field of pharmaceutics. The final chapter covers saturated heterocycles, with an emphasis on stereochemical properties.

This text is ideal for undergraduate and graduate students in organic chemistry as well as pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry. Most of the chapters include problem sets, enabling students to test and build their knowledge of key concepts by applying principles of heterocyclic chemistry to solve real problems.

About the Author
LOUIS D. QUIN, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Dr. Quin began his academic career in 1956 with the Department of Chemistry at Duke University, serving as department chairman from 1970 to 1976. After retiring from Duke, he went to the University of Massachusetts Amherst to head up its Chemistry Department, retiring in 1996. Dr. Quin has written 250 research papers and written or co-edited eight books on the subject of organophosphorus chemistry.

JOHN A. TYRELL, PhD, is Visiting Scientist in the Department of Chemistry and Bio-chemistry at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he teaches Fundamentals of Heterocyclic Chemistry among other courses. Dr. Tyrell holds sixty-eight patents and has more than twenty years of industrial research experience, much of it focused on heterocyclic chemistry research at Lederle Laboratories, General Electric Plastics, and OxyChem.
