Review
“This book brings creativity and innovativeness to training tools, models, and activities. I fully agree with the authors that it is amazing that this important field of endeavor has made so little progress in the last 30 years. The cry for intercultural competence becomes louder at a time when we don't have to travel to find an increasingly diverse population, and thus training is needed now more than ever.” (Fons Trompenaars, founder of Trompenaars Hampden-Turner, a major multinational consulting firm with offices in The Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, and US)

“Building Cultural Competence makes a valuable contribution to intercultural trainers by presenting 50+ innovative activities designed specifically for the development of intercultural competence and framing the use of these activities in terms of intercultural facilitation and intercultural development.” (R. Michael Paige, author of Education for the Intercultural Experience and Professor of International and Intercultural Education)

“A new book of training activities is always welcome, but this volume offers something more: a thoughtful, careful analysis of how to design and execute relevant cultural training. You get the toolkit, in short, as well as guidance from some of the master builders.” (Craig Sorti, author, trainer and consultant in intercultural communications)

Best purchase of 2013, Great value, Awesome Resource
By Vanessa
I'm exceptionally pleased with this book. There is an endless amount of great resources for intercultural training and consulting. I would even say that if you are an expat or international traveler or someone with an interest in this field, its a great book to get a taste for the wide range of topics the field covers. It also has a lot of exercises that are easily done as an individual and can provide great insight into your experiences of travel and crossing cultures.

Beyond the great list of activities, I give two big thumbs up on the organization of the book. Each chapter covers a specific aspect of the field of cultural competence. It might be about culture shock or cultural transitions... or perhaps diving a bit deeper into developing cultural competence. The activities and resources selected were done so carefully, its quite apparent in the book.

Contributors to the book are the best of the field, and from a range of backgrounds and expertise. The collaboration it took to create this book is daunting, but the final product is exceptional. And the price is extremely reasonable for the value and content. Thank you for providing us this tool at a within reach price.

This book is without a doubt my best purchase for 2013.

Excellent Resource for Cross-Cultural Teaching and Training
By Andy Molinsky
This is an outstanding resource, chock full of fun,easy-to-use, and insightful activities and frameworks for teaching cultural awareness and competence. I am so glad that I discovered this book because I'm going to use several of the exercises right away in my own cross-cultural teaching. What's also nice is that the activities are "turn-key" -- you can use them immediately and just plug them into whatever session you're teaching. Just take a look at the authors' handy index at the beginning of the book to quickly discover which activities are useful for your particular purpose. I also appreciate the range and diversity of activities. I can see using this with executives, MBA students, and undergraduates. I am so glad that I found this excellent resource and look forward to recommending it to others!
